CASCO — Alan Laurence Aschoff, 72, of Casco, Maine, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 surrounded by his daughters at the Androscoggin Home Care-Hospice House in Auburn.

Alan was born on July 23, 1944 in Marysville, California to James and Ada (Marsh) Aschoff. He graduated from Lincoln High School, San Francisco in 1963. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served his county during combat in Vietnam.

After time served in the Marines, Alan moved to Maine and earned a master’s degree in business. He was employed to manage a variety of manufacturing facilities including; Sprague Electric, Arkless Switch and Augat. Before retiring, Alan spent some time as a consultant for local businesses.

Alan lived his life following the code of the Marines: “Semper Fidelis” – always faithful. True testament of this was his loyalty to his faithful companion; Teddy and all his dogs before Teddy. “Improvise, Adapt and Overcome” – symbolizes the flexibility, resourcefulness, and quick decision-making ability. This was Alan’s guide when faced with a situation that required action. It was his standard response to anyone looking for advice from Alan. “Improvise, Adapt, and Overcome; repeat this and your answer will come to you and when it does, do not second guess yourself- act on it” Alan could be heard saying to his grandson.

Alan is survived by: his three daughters; Melissa Aschoff Brown of Raymond, New Hampshire, Sonia Aschoff Cloutier of Plaistow, New Hampshire, Jennifer Aschoff of Eagle River, Alaska; grandchildren, Diane Fernald, Devin Brown, Kyle Cloutier and Kyrissa Cloutier; brother, Gregory James Aschoff; niece and nephews, Lisa Masure, Rhonda Masure, Jinnette Aschoff and Timothy Aschoff; and great nephew, Xavier Aschoff.
