RUBY is all dressed up and ready to go.
BRUNSWICK

Here is three-year-old chow mix, Ruby, all dressed up! Ruby came to Coastal Humane from Georgia early in the Fall. We are told she once enjoyed a home, but her people moved away, unthinkably leaving her behind to fend for herself. Kind neighbors fed her, so she stayed at her house for several months waiting for someone to return. Finally, after realizing that Ruby’s owners were never coming back for her, the neighbors called Animal Control. She had been in an animal shelter for a few months before Castoff Pet Rescue, our rescue partner in Blairsville, Georgia, pulled her out.

Ruby was so shy and scared that it took her three days to come out of her pen. On the third day, a Castoff volunteer named Janet sat in front of her open kennel door and talked sweetly to her, determined to coax her out of her shell. At length, Ruby came close enough for Janet to put on a leash, and they went for a walk — the first of many. Car rides soon followed, and she blossomed!

Here at Coastal, she continues to grow, and enjoys walks and car rides with staff and volunteers. She’s a wonderful dog, though she’s retained a bit of her independent streak. It takes a little longer for her to warm up to new people, but not that long! After she gets comfortable with you, she is an absolute delight.

She would prefer not to share her home with cats or children under 12, but Ruby does get along well with other dogs. It’s important for dogs that could be future siblings to meet ahead of time, so ask us about setting up a “meet and greet” with any dogs in your home. Learn more about Ruby at (207) 725-5051 or visit her at 30 Range Road in Brunswick.
