WINDHAM — Nick Curtis scored 19 points, Mike Gilman added 15, and Dierhow Bol contributed 12 points, 19 rebounds and four blocked shots as Windham upset previously undefeated Edward Little 60-58 in a Class AA North boys’ basketball game Saturday night.
The Eagles (10-4) used a 20-10 advantage in the second quarter to open a 28-22 lead, then stretched their advantage to 50-39 with six minutes remaining before holding off EL’s furious comeback.
Samatar Iman scored 24 points and Jarod Norcross-Plourde had 18 for the Red Eddies (13-1).
WELLS 84, SACOPEE VALLEY 52: Deandre Woods scored 26 points to lead the Warriors (9-4) over the Hawks (3-12) in South Hiram.
Cam Cousins added 13 points and Tyler Bridge finished with 12.
Cam Cyr led Sacopee with 16 points.
PINE TREE ACADEMY 44, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 38: Alex Schlisner (13 points), Billy Alcime (11), Jared Tamaleaa (10) and Najee Jean-Louis (10) combined for all the scoring for the Breakers (5-6) in a victory over Greater Portland Christian (1-13) in Freeport.
Ethan Spaulding netted 21 points for the Lions.
VALLEY 69, SEARSPORT 47: The Cavaliers (10-4) jumped out to a 23-3 first-quarter lead and cruised past the Vikings (9-7) in Bingham.
Austin Cates scored 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Josh Brown added 14 points for Valley.
Searsport’s Barrett Grant scored 17 points, including the 1,000th of his career.
MARANACOOK 50, MT. VIEW 46: Kyle Wilbur paced a balanced attack with 12 points as the Black Bears (6-8) held off the Mustangs (6-7) in Readfield.
Dan Garand added 11 points and Silas Mohlar scored 10 for Maranacook.
Colby Furrow led Mt. View with 20 points.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
SOUTH PORTLAND 51, CHEVERUS 44: Maggie Whitmore completed a three-point play and went 5 for 5 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to help the Red Riots (11-2) beat the Stags (9-4) in South Portland.
It was the seventh straight win for the Red Riots, who are ranked second in Class AA South.
Cheverus, ranked third in Class AA North, closed within two points on consecutive 3-pointers by Abby Cavallaro and Emme Poulin early in the fourth, but South Portland maintained its lead the rest of the way.
Whitmore finished with 19 points and Eva Mazur added 10 for the Red Riots.
Cavallaro paced Cheverus with 13 points.
PINE TREE ACADEMY 46, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 20: Alex Goodman’s 24 points led the Breakers (9-3) past Greater Portland Christian (4-11) in Freeport.
Kaeley Brann scored seven points for GPCS.
WINTHROP 56, LISBON 46: Kena Souza scored 14 points to lead the Ramblers (9-6) over the Greyhounds (8-8) in Winthrop.
Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone added 10 points and Adlin Chaparin chipped in with nine.
Kaylin Lee paced Lisbon with 14 points.
SEARSPORT 49, VALLEY 48: The Vikings (7-7) scored all three of their points in the third overtime from the free-throw line to beat the Cavaliers (3-11) in Bingham.
Mikaela Alley led Searsport with 12 points and Brooklynn Albert scored 11.
Valley was led by Samantha West with 23 points and Kendra Sweet with 11.
MT. VIEW 51, MARANACOOK 29: Halle Davis scored 19 points and Shala Davis added 18 as the Mustangs (5-8) won in Thorndike.
Grace Despres scored eight points for Maranacook (0-14).
BOYS’ HOCKEY
KENNEBUNK 5, YARMOUTH 4: Kyle Beaupre scored with 1:45 left in overtime to give the Rams (9-2) a victory over the Clippers (6-4-1) in Yarmouth.
After Beaupre won a faceoff in the offensive zone, Nate Jewett took a shot that was blocked by Yarmouth goalie Dan Latham, but Beaupre put the rebound past Latham to the short side.
Goals by Dom Morrill and Bennett Travers gave Yarmouth an early 2-0 lead, but Kennebunk countered with the next four goals. Walker Robinson made it 2-1 before the end of the first period, and Miles Eaton, Brenden Whitten and Jakub Simikak scored in the second period.
Yarmouth got third-period goals from Tyler Veilleux and Cooper May to force overtime.
Kennebunk goalie Spencer Desrochers finished with 25 saves, including five in overtime. Latham stopped 26 shots.
CHEVERUS 5, CAPE ELIZABETH 4: David Woodford nudged Jesse Pierce’s cross-ice pass into the net 1:41 into overtime to lift Cheverus (7-2) over Cape Elizabeth (6-4) in Portland.
The goal capped the Stags’ rally from a 4-1 first-period deficit.
Derek Allen, Evan Concannon and Sean Agrondia scored in the opening 5:10 for a 3-0 Cape lead. Michael Hatch answered for Cheverus with 3:34 left in the period, only to have Allen counter for the Capers 24 seconds later.
But Sean Walsh and Colby Anton netted goals for the Stags in the second period, and Walsh tied it five minutes into the third.
FALMOUTH 4, BANGOR 1: Lou Mainella and Reece Armitage scored first-period goals to start the Yachtsmen (8-2-1) on their way to a win over the Rams in Falmouth.
Bangor (7-5) got a power-play goal in the final minute of the second period to cut its deficit to 2-1, but Theo Hembre restored Falmouth’s two-goal lead early in the third and Marcus Cady added an empty-netter.
WINDHAM/WESTBROOK 4, NOBLE/WELLS 2: Derek Corbett scored the tiebreaking goal five minutes into the third period as the Eagles (4-8) beat the Knights (3-9) in Rochester, New Hampshire.
Noble got goals from Evan Whitten and Lukas Hughes for an early 2-0 lead. Dylan Francoeur put the Eagles on the board late in the first period and Keegan Pock tied it in the second.
Chris Lekousi added a late insurance goal.
BIDDEFORD 4, SOUTH PORTLAND/FREEPORT/WAYNFLETE 1: Logan Magnant scored a pair of goals for the Tigers (8-4) in a win over the Red Riots (4-7-1) at Troubh Ice Arena.
Colin Petit got the go-ahead goal at 9:03 of the first period, and Ricky Ruck had a goal and an assist in the second period to help Biddeford take control.
Gus Lappin scored in the first period for South Portland.
MASSABESIC/BONNY EAGLE/OLD ORCHARD BEACH 8, PORTLAND/DEERING 6: Tanner McClure scored two goals and recorded his 100th career point, leading the Mustangs (5-4) past the Bulldogs (6-5) in Gorham.
Massabesic, down 3-0 a minute into the second period, registered five straight power-play goals over the second and third periods to open a 5-3 lead.
McClure, Brandon Caron and Cameron Roy each had two goals and an assist for the Mustangs.
Dominic Tocci and Mason Martell each scored twice for Portland, with Martell also recording an assist.
GARDINER 3, BREWER 0: Ryan Kelley broke a scoreless tie 1:23 into the third period and Joe Clark and Tanner Hebert each added a short-handed goal as the Tigers (7-3) beat the Witches (7-5-1) in Hallowell.
Michael Poirier made 27 saves to record the shutout.
GREELY 5, CAMDEN HILLS 3: Andy Moore had two goals and an assist to lead the Rangers (4-5) over the Windjammers (1-11) in Camden.
Ryan Megathlin, Jack Saffian and Matt Kramlich also scored for the Rangers.
Perrin Bonner-Ganter notched two goals for Camden Hills.
GIRLS’ HOCKEY
CHEVERUS/KENNEBUNK/OOB 5, CAPE ELIZABETH/WAYNFLETE/SOUTH PORTLAND 4: Sophia Pompeo scored two goals and added an assist, and Abby Lamontagne collected a goal and three assists to lead the Stags (8-8) over the Capers (8-8) at Troubh Ice Arena.
Hannah Woodford also scored for Cheverus, which led 3-0 after the first period and 5-1 going into the third.
Hannah Bosworth recorded a hat trick and Sophia Venditti had a goal and two assists for the Capers.
GREELY 8, WINSLOW/GARDINER 0: Kylie Rogers scored four goals to lead the Rangers (15-1) over the Black Raiders (10-7) in Falmouth.
Courtney Sullivan added two goals and an assist and Bridget Roberts also scored twice.
SCARBOROUGH/SACOPEE VALLEY 6, PORTLAND/DEERING 0: Lucy Bogdanovich scored three goals to lead the Red Storm (11-4-1) over the Bulldogs (1-15) in Lewiston.
Lauren Topchik, Taylor Veilleux and Kara Reynolds also scored, andCourtney Brochu had two assists.
CHEERLEADING
REGIONALS: Gorham, Medomak Valley and Lisbon earned South regional titles at the Augusta Civic Center, leading the list of qualifying teams for the state championships on Feb. 11.
Gorham edged Marshwood in Class A South, 82.7 to 82.3. Noble (81.7), Biddeford (78.3), Thornton Academy (77.8) and Scarborough (74) also qualified for the state meet.
Medomak Valley claimed its seventh straight regional title in Class B South with a score of 79.2, followed by Wells (72.1), Leavitt (66.6), Freeport (65.2), Mountain Valley (64.6) and Morse (63.8).
Lisbon (66.7) prevailed by a wide margin in Class C South. The Greyhounds will be joined at the state championships by Dirigo (56.8), Monmouth Academy (54.5), Sacopee Valley (54.4), Wiscasset (50.8) and Boothbay (50.3).
Lewiston, Hermon and Central were the North regional champions, and Central Aroostook was the top qualifier among Class D schools.
FRIDAY’S BOYS’ BASKETBALL
DEERING 57, CHEVERUS 44: Manny Chikuta and Raffaele Salamone scored 14 points apiece while leading the Rams (10-4) over the visiting Stags (10-4) in Portland.
Deering opened a 26-20 halftime lead before outscoring Cheverus 15-8 in the third quarter behind the inside play of Salamone and the all-court presence of Chikuta, Machar Nguany and Jean Claude Butera.
Jack Casale scored 21 points for Cheverus.
