BATH

Aaron Park has announced he will be running for the Bath City Council. Park hopes to fill the Ward Seven seat vacated by the unexpected death of Leverett “Tink” Mitchell, who died unexpectedly in late December.

According to his campaign announcement, Park served on the Bath Forestry Committee and as an election warden. He was a member of the Solid Waste Committee that recommended Single Stream Recycling to the city of Bath, as well as the Pay-as-you-Throw Program to help lengthen the life of the local landfill.

Park said he “was heavily involved in working with the City, Public Works Department and my Park Street neighborhood in trying to reduce sewer overflows and improve the storm water infrastructure in the area.

In addition, Park is a Corporator of the Patten Free Library, he has been involved in supporting the Bath Freight Shed and he has volunteered to help build the “Virginia,” the Maine First Ship project.

Park is the co-owner and chef of Henry and Marty, a Brunswick restaurant.

“I look forward to working as a member of the Council to help keep our City the wonderful place it is, just as Tink Mitchell did for so many years,” Park said in his announcement. “I am eager to hear from any and all who wish to bend my ear. I appreciate your support on February 21st in allowing me the opportunity to represent the people of Ward Seven.”

Mitchell, the former fire chief of Bath, was first elected to serve on the city council in 2002. Mitchell was succeeded by Ruthe Pagurko in 2005. After Pagurko passed away in 2012, Mitchell won a three-way race in a special election to replace her. Mitchell had won reelection to his seat in November unopposed for another three-year term.

Ward 7 covers the Northernmost tip of the city.

The registrar of voters will be open from Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 4:30, and on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
