The Orion Performing Arts Center will hold “Dining for a Cause,” at the 99 Restaurant in the Topsham Fair Mall on Thursday, Feb. 2
By eating a meal at the restaurant located at 34 Topsham Fair Mall Road, diners can raise money for School Administrative District 75’s theater, located inside Mt. Ararat Middle School.
When patrons bring a voucher to either lunch or dinner, the 99 Restaurant will donate 15 percent of their bill to the Orion’s capital needs fund.
The Orion Advisory Committee is raising money to improve curtains and lights at the theater. It will soon install a rope system and proscenium curtains which close in the center. These improvements will make the stage more attractive and useful for performances and community groups.
Vouchers to support the Orion can’t be distributed at the restaurant, so get them in advance. Vouchers are available at Mt. Ararat Middle School or can be downloaded from the Orion’s website, www.orionperformingartscenter.org.
The committee is also holding a raffle, thanks to the generosity of donors. Raffle tickets, available at the event, are $1, or six for $5. Items include gift certificate at The Music Center, signed photo of Red Sox player Pablo Sandoval, signed photo of Patriots’ player Nate Solder, tickets to Portland Sea Dogs game, a basket of Red Claws items including an autographed item and more. The raffle will continue until March 22.
“The Orion Performing Arts Center cultivates in our schools and communities an appreciation and understanding of performing arts — dance, music, and drama — and how they deepen and illuminate the human experience,” a press release about the event states. “For people of all ages, the Orion provides a cultural beacon in the region, allowing everyone to experience fine live performances, both amateur and professional.”
The Orion hosts school band, chorus and drama productions and community groups such as Midcoast Symphony, Midcoast Youth Theater, Down East Dance Festival, The Ballet School, Maine Coast Heritage Trust conservation conference, The Moving Co. Dance Studio, and more.
