BIDDEFORD — Forecasters are predicting treacherous travel conditions Monday night and into Tuesday as a “significant nor’easter” is expected to roll into New England, according to the National Weather Service.

Commuters can expect messy driving conditions featuring a wintry mix of dense snow followed by periods of sleet and freezing rain.

Roads could be glazed with sheets of ice ranging up to 0.2 inches and residents should also see steady winds from the northeast about 15 to 25 mph with occasional stronger gusts.

Some power outages are possible throughout Tuesday for coastal Maine.

The nor’easter tapers off Tuesday night into Wednesday, resulting in scattered snow showers, with temperatures in the low 30s.

Snow showers are expected to persist throughout the rest of the week with weekend temperatures much colder with highs hovering in the upper 20s to low 30s.
