As a 14-year resident of Portland, I have walked past the graffiti wall countless times. My objection is not with the wall itself, or the art. It is with the litter and ignorance of some of the artists who paint there. I have seen many empty paint cans tossed over the fence into the brush that lines the walkway, toward the beach and bay.
Yes, I realize that not all of the people who paint on the wall are responsible for the litter, but it is a disgrace. Could they police each other? Could an attempt to educate them help?
I have no idea if it is sheer ignorance in all cases, or rebellion. The littering of that section of the walkway should stop, and perhaps the artists themselves should be part of the cleanup!
