Gov. Paul LePage on Tuesday nominated Deputy Attorney General Lisa Marchese and a financial adviser from Fort Kent as the newest members of the University of Maine System board of trustees.

Marchese, the criminal division chief at the Maine Attorney General’s Office, is a University of Maine graduate. A longtime homicide prosecutor in the state, she has also chaired the Domestic Violence Homicide Review Panel and currently serves on the AG’s human trafficking working group. Her work has been honored by the Maine State Bar Association and the Maine Child Abuse Action Network.

The governor also nominated Prudential agent Kelly Martin, who chaired the University of Maine at Fort Kent Board of Visitors, an advisory group that works closely with the university president. Martin served on the board of visitors from 2010 to 2016 and is a longtime member of the town’s budget committee.

LePage also renominated Karl Turner, a former state senator and retired financial executive who has served on the board of trustees since 2011. Turner is a graduate of the University of Maine.

All three nominations require a public hearing before the Legislature’s Education Committee and final confirmation by the Maine Senate.

The board of trustees has 16 members: the commissioner of education and 15 members who are appointed to five-year terms by the governor. Members can be reappointed once. A student member serves a single two-year term.
