CLINTON, N.Y. — Senior co-captain Allie Coppola returned to her home state and tallied half as many points as the entire Hamilton team in a 60-44 road win for the Bates College women’s basketball team Friday night.
Senior co-captain Bernadette Connors supported Coppola with 12 points, eight rebounds and a game-high four assists. Junior Lyse Henshaw of Brunswick chipped in 10 points for Bates.
The Bobcats used a big first quarter to grab an early lead and they were able to bookend the performance with a strong fourth-quarter performance as well.
Coppola got the game started with a lay-up, and after Hamilton responded with a lay-up of its own, junior Nina Davenport of Freeport and Henshaw hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give Bates the lead for good at 8-2.
The fourth quarter belonged to Bates. The Bobcats ended the game on a 13- 0 run. The run started with Connors making a pair of free throws. Then, after a Hamilton turnover, Davenport made a lay-up to extend the lead to 51-44, causing the Continentals to call a timeout with 3:34 to go in the game.
The Bobcats visit Connecticut College on Friday at 7 p.m.
