A box truck driver has pleaded not guilty in a crash in Casco last year that killed a popular Naples middle school teacher.
Authorities say Joshua McNally was driving a Native Maine Produce truck in April when it crashed into a car driven by 29-year-old Adam Perron of Harrison. Perron, a science teacher at Lakes Region Middle School, died at the scene.
Investigators say McNally shouldn’t have been behind the wheel.
WCSH-TV reports McNally pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to manslaughter and causing a death while having a suspended or revoked license. His bail is set at $10,000.
McNally was driving east on Route 302 when he swerved into the path of Perron’s 2009 Pontiac Vibe, which was heading west, according to Capt. Don Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
The truck, which is registered to the Westbrook food distribution company, struck Perron’s car on the driver’s side and continued down an embankment. The truck rolled onto its side, pinning McNally under the vehicle.
Goulet told WCSH-TV that it took crews about 40 minutes to extricate McNally from the wreckage.
McNally of Westbrook, was flown by medevac helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries.
