The 17 defendants charged with obstructing a public way and other misdemeanors in a Black Lives Matter protest in Portland on July 15, 2016, have reached an out-of-court settlement with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, WCSH-TV reported.

Attorney Jon Gale, who represents one of the protesters, told WCSH that charges will be dropped against all of the defendants if they satisfy certain conditions outlined in a court filing.

As part of the deal, the protesters must meet with the Portland Police Department to talk about the confrontation and how it was handled by officers. The discussion will be led by the Portland Center for Restorative Justice.

A judge will be asked to approve the settlement on Jan. 26.

The protesters marched to City Hall before they blocked Commercial Street, where they were arrested during a tense confrontation.
