POWNAL
The State Fire Marshals say the man who died in a fire early Friday morning is 65-year-old Barry Cain of Pownal.
The fire broke out at the man’s home on Elmwood Road at around 1 a.m. and destroyed it. Fire investigators located Cain’s body just before dawn in an apartment located above a garage. His identity had been withheld until family was notified.
According to a press release issued Friday night by Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland, investigators suspect the fire was weather-related. The electric power had gone out and Cain was known to use alternative sources of heat to keep warm.
However, the exact cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
