Massachusetts police have identified the pedestrian from Maine who was struck and killed on I-495 outside Lowell, but it is unclear why he was in the travel lane at the time of the crash.

Killed in the predawn crash was Lawrence Perham, 39, of Bradford. According to State Police, Perham was struck in a southbond travel lane of I-495, south of Exit 37 near Lowell.

He was struck by a 2005 Ford pickup being driven be a 61-year-old man from Chelmsford, Massachsuetts. The driver was transported to Lowell General Hospital for minor injuries.

It is unknown why Perham was in the travel lane. His vehicle was found parked in the breakdown lane a short distance away, police said in a statement.

The crash remains under investigation, and no one has been charged.
