Today will bring a bit of light snow to the area in a burst lasting from the morning into the early to mid-afternoon.  The snow will end south to north and leave as little as a coating to as much as 2 inches – not a big storm.  It doesn’t take much, however, to bring issues to the roads, so take it easy, especially on secondary roadways.

Light snow will fall the first part of today.

Tomorrow will be a beautiful late December day with sunshine and highs near 40.  If you have an opportunity to hit the slopes, take it.

Another weather system brings some rain to the area Saturday.  This will likely be snow in the mountains, but could turn to rain even there.  In southern Maine any snow to start would be brief.  Saturday night the rain will end and if you are heading out for Christmas Eve or Hanukkah there shouldn’t be any weather issues.

Christmas Day will be sunny and pleasant.  Look for dry roads and seasonably mild to cool air.  It’s also another great day to go skiing, with plenty of sunshine.

Monday brings back another chance for rain or snow, but again, not a big system. Temperatures won’t be very chilly.

Eventually late next week, toward the New Year, a renewed shot of Arctic air will push into Maine.  This will bring much colder temperatures, but also a lot of dry air.  Again I don’t see any big storms.  While it may seem odd, we are still in a drought and if we don’t get some significant precipitation in the next three months, our growing season is going to start with a real water shortage.
