CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Senior guard Tanesha Sutton scored a career-high 16 points to pace a balanced attack, and the University of Maine women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to four games with a 61-48 victory Monday afternoon over East Tennessee State in the first round of the Miami Holiday Classic.

Sigi Koizar added 12 points, and 6-foot-3 freshman Anita Kelava recorded career highs with 10 points and four blocks for the Black Bears (7-5).

Maine never trailed and led by as many as 17 points in the second quarter. ETSU closed to within four points three times in the second half, but a layup by Koisar and back-to-back layups by Sutton helped the Black Bears get their lead back to double digits, 51-41.

Maine will play for the tournament championship Tuesday against 11th-ranked Miami, which beat Coppin State, 75-35.

WPI 51, BATES 44: The Engineers (9-1) used a 24-5 run to beat the Bobcats (2-6) at Lewiston. Bates led 18-17 at halftime, but was only 2 for 10 shooting in the third quarter.

Lyse Henshaw had a game-high 18 points for Bates.

WARTBURG 72, SOUTHERN MAINE 53: Katie Somner and Aryn Jones each had 13 points to lead a balanced attack as the ninth-ranked Knights (9-0) cruised in their matchup in the 2016 Cruizin’ Classic at Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Alexa Srolovitz led the offense for Southern Maine with 15 points, adding six rebounds and five assists. Jackie Luckhardt had 13 points, with five assists and four steals.

(1) UCONN 82, (12) OHIO STATE 63: Katie Lou Samuelson scored eight of her 26 points during a key third-quarter run at Hartford, Connecticut, for the Huskies’ 85th consecutive victory.

Napheesa Collier had 27 points and 11 rebounds for UConn, which is five games away from matching its NCAA record 90-game winning streak set from 2008 to 2010.

(7) FLORIDA STATE 95, NORTH FLORIDA 39: Leticia Romero scored 22 points in a runaway win at Tallahassee, Florida.

(11) MIAMI 75, COPPIN STATE 35: Adrienne Motley and Erykah Davenport scored 15 points apiece to win at the Miami Holiday Tournament at Coral Gables, Florida.

POLL: UConn is still the unanimous top choice in the women’s basketball poll, with the voting held prior to the Huskies’ 82-63 win Monday.

With most teams on break for exams, there wasn’t much movement at the top. Notre Dame, Baylor, Maryland and Mississippi State followed UConn.

(15) PURDUE 82, WESTERN ILLINOIS 50: Caleb Swanigan had 21 points and 21 rebounds in a win at West Lafayette, Indiana.

(16) INDIANA 103, DELAWARE STATE 56: OG Anunoby had 19 points and nine rebounds in a rout at home.

(21) FLORIDA STATE 76, SAMFORD 68: Terrence Mann scored 19 points in a win at Tallahassee, Florida.

(25) NOTRE DAME 77, COLGATE 62: V.J. Beachem scored 20 points to help the host Irish (10-2) snap a two-game skid.

POLL: Villanova held onto its impressive lead as the No. 1 ranked team as the Wildcats (11-0) are on top for a third straight week.

UCLA remained ranked second with three No. 1 votes. Kansas, Baylor, Duke and Kentucky remained third through sixth for a third consecutive week.

Gonzaga, UNC, Creighton and Louisville round out the top 10.

MIAMI BEACH BOWL: Dane Evans passed for 304 yards and five touchdowns, three of those scoring throws going to Keevan Lucas, and Tulsa rolled past Central Michigan 55-10 at Miami.

Evans completed 28 of 38 passes for the Golden Hurricane (10-3).

STANFORD: Running back Christian McCaffrey will skip the Sun Bowl game to prepare for the NFL draft, making the announcement via Twitter. No. 16 Stanford plays North Carolina on Dec. 30 in El Paso, Texas.

McCaffrey is the second prominent player to make such a decision.

LSU running back Leonard Fournette has said he will not play in the Citrus Bowl to focus on prepping for the draft.

McCaffrey said last month he would be skipping his senior season. He was the Heisman Trophy runner-up in 2015 as a sophomore when he set the NCAA record for all-purpose yards in a season.

He led the nation with 211.5 all-purpose yards per game this season.
