KILLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont State Police say an elderly man has become the second New York skier since Saturday to collapse and die at the Killington Ski Resort.

Sgt. Andrew Todd said Monday that 80-year-old Walter Gorgas, of Wappingers Falls, New York, was skiing at around 2:30 p.m. when witnesses saw him collapse.

Gorgas was taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Todd says the death “appears to be a natural event.”

Police say Gorgas was an experienced skier and instructor at Killington.

Police say 65-year-old William Cusano, of Lagrangeville, New York, was skiing an intermediate trail at the mountain when he collapsed on Saturday afternoon. He died at a hospital.

Police say Cusano’s death also appeared to have been a natural event.
