Josh Rutledge, a reserve infielder who played last season with the Boston Red Sox, will return to the club after being picked up in the Rule 5 draft Thursday.

Rutledge, who played just 28 games last season because of a right knee injury, was granted his release from Boston in November after failing to agree to terms. He was picked up by Colorado but left unprotected for the Rule 5 draft, and the Red Sox reacquired him.

Boston lost two minor leaguers in the draft, both former Portland Sea Dogs. Pitcher Justin Haley was selected by the Los Angeles Angeles and outfielder Aneury Tavarez by the Baltimore Orioles.
