BRUNSWICK

A Brunswick woman was charged with operating under the influence Thursday morning after she allegedly rear-ended a vehicle and then backed into the responding police cruiser several minutes later.

According to Brunswick Police Sgt. Paul Hansen, police were called at 10:09 a.m. regarding a crash at Maquoit Road and Maine Street. Judith Reid, 56, of Brunswick was in her 2009 Nissan Versa and was waiting at a stop sign to turn left onto Maine Street, when she was struck by a 1999 Toyota Camry driven by Caitlin Smith, 23.

Hansen said Lt. Michael Moody arrived at the scene to investigate the crash. His cruiser emergency lights were activated when Smith allegedly backed into his cruiser and waved good-bye to Moody as she attempted to leave the scene.

Smith was stopped and charged with operating under the influence. The cruiser, a 2015 Ford Explorer, sustained only minor damage.
