BANGOR — Former Freeport High School standout Nina Davenport scored a team-high 13 points and Allie Coppola grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, but the Bates College women’s basketball team fell, 60-44 to the Husson University Eagles Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats (2-2) jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first quarter. Davenport drained a trey with 5:08 left in the quarter and Coppola followed with a made jumper to extend the Bobcat’ lead to eight with 4:33 to go.
But, the Eagles (3-0) finished the quarter on a 12-4 run, tying the score at 16 on a Sami Ireland jumper with 10 seconds left.
Bates went 0-for-13 from the field in the second quarter while being outscored 9-2 by the Eagles.
Down by seven at halftime, the Bobcats rallied to tie the game with 6:47 left in the third quarter when Carly Christofi drained a 3- pointer to even the score at 27. Christofi scored eight points, grabbed seven rebounds and tallied three assists off the bench for Bates.
The Eagles went on an 18- 6 run to end the quarter to grab the lead for good.
The Bobcats look to bounce back tonight when they visit Colby. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
