An Orono woman faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty Monday to allowing her home to be used by out-of-state drug dealers.
Amy Hakola, 42, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Bangor to maintaining a drug-involved premises, according to Thomas E. Delahanty II, the U.S. attorney for Maine.
Delahanty said Hakola also faces a $500,000 fine and three years of supervised release.
According to court records, Hakola allowed her home to be used by Jermain Mitchell and other people from New Haven, Connecticut, to distribute crack cocaine.
“Although the drug deals did not occur in her residence, Hakola was aware that digital scales, packaging materials and drugs were stored in her residence,” Delahanty said in a news release. “She was aware that men staying at her residence repeatedly left the residence to conduct transactions with people who pulled up outside the residence.”
Court records said that Hakola also drove the men to places where they sold drugs, and she knew that Mitchell was not employed yet regularly had large amounts of cash that he used to pay Hakola for rent and household expenses.
