Community tree lighting

The Windham Public Safety Building will be the site for the annual town tree lighting from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29. Join friends and neighbors for traditional tree lighting with carols, refreshments and photo ops with Santa. Music will be provided by Windham Primary School’s Third Grade Chorus and Griffin’s Pro Sound. Please bring along a non-perishable food item for the Windham Food Pantry.

Tree with a side of cookies

On Friday, Dec. 2, from 6-8 p.m. visit with others at the Tree Lighting at Windham Shopping Plaza, hosted by the Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce. Celebrate National Cookie Day by visiting the plaza stores for free cookies, hot cocoa and more.

North Pole Hotline

Preschoolers through third-graders will be able to talk directly to Santa Claus through a special hotline connected to the North Pole. Forms are available for moms and dads to fill out – call 892-1905 to get your form and return it by Thursday, Dec. 8. This is courtesy of the Windham Parks & Recreation Dept.

Artisan Fair & Silent Auction

 The 2016 Bid of Christmas Artisan Fair & Silent Auction will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8,  at Windham Weaponry, 999 Roosevelt Trail. The Sebago Lakes Chamber of Commerce is looking for artisans/retailers to sell items/gifts and for donations for the event. Contact Robin Mullins, robin@sebagolakeschamber.com for more information.

Christmas assistance signup

The Windham Food Pantry is accepting signups from Windham residents for the Windham Toy Workshop and Christmas Dinner through Dec. 1. Signups must be done in person and proof of residency is required. The food pantry is the building next door to the Public Safety building and across the street from the Friends Meeting House on Route 202, and is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for registrations.

Cancer support group

Windham Cancer Support Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, at the Windham Public Library meeting room. This is an informal group of and for folks whose lives have been touched by cancer. All are welcome.

Stagecoach history

On Monday, Nov. 28, Terry Christy, a former Windham High School history teacher, will present a program about stagecoaches at 7 p.m. at the Windham Historical Society, 234 Windham Center Road. Learn about the former mode of transportation and the routes they used. All are welcome and refreshments will be available. $5 donation is suggested.

Free winter coats

Windham’s Clothes Closet has many winter coats for children and women. You’ll be surprised to see this great collection of jackets, coats and much more. And they are all free. The Closet is open from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays and Tuesdays and is always seeking donations of gently used, clean blankets, towels and sheets.

Dec. 7 commemoration

Windham’s American Legion Post 148 will have a day full of commemorative events on Wednesday, Dec. 7, to mark the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day. The coffee social in the morning will include a ceremonial wreath-laying at 10 a.m., at the Memorial Garden. Post meeting/recognition ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. with a special ham dinner, followed by Post members’ recognition. The Post meeting will follow the ceremony. The time isn’t set yet, but in the afternoon, a wreath-laying ceremony and remembrance will be held at the Windham High School at the Veterans Memorial by the Post Honor guard.
