A Windham woman died in a fire in her home Friday morning.

State officials say they believe the victim is Mary McAllister, 60, who lived alone on Pettingill Road, off Route 302.

The fire was reported around 4 a.m. at the one-story Pettingill Road home, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the house was engulfed in flames when the firefighters arrived.

McAllister’s body was recovered from the house and taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta. The investigation will likely continue into next week, officials say.
