Library’s big Christmas fair

Steep Falls Library’s fifth annual Christmas Craft Fair will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Nov. 25-26. Hand-knit items, decorated wreaths, baked goods, the “Famous Mitten Tree,” handcrafted jewelry and items for people and pets, home decor shabby chic items and other holiday items will be available. Also featured will be a lunch of chili, fish chowder and hot dogs; and a coffee corner with freshly made doughnuts and muffins. All proceeds will benefit the Steep Falls Library Heat Fund and Wanda’s Angels of Maine, helping animals in need.

Mondays – Senior Social, noon-4 p.m., is an opportunity for Standish residents to meet new friends, play games and enjoy lunch. (Reservations are suggested, as only 16 people can be accommodated.

Tuesdays – Childrens Story Hour, 10 a.m. Each week brings a new story.

Wednesdays – Morning Knit Group,  10 a.m. -noon

Thursdays – Tai Chi, 9:30-11 a.m. Learn about the health benefits of meditation in motion.

Third Monday of each month–  Adult Book Group, 11 a.m.

‘Nutcracker’ features local dancers

Standish residents Boomer Druchniak (Tea from China & Arabian Prince) and Veronica Druchniak (Sugar Plum Fairy, Dew Drop Fairy, Marzipan Shepherdess) and Steep Fall residents Macey Brenner and Loretta Johnson are among the dancers performing in Maine State Ballet’s  40th anniversary production of “The Nutcracker,” at Portland’s Merrill Auditorium Friday, Nov. 25 through Sunday, Dec. 4. Tickets are on sale through Porttix at 842-0800, or tickets.porttix.com, or at the Merrill Auditorium box office, noon-6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Tickets are priced at $21-66, and discounts are available for groups, seniors and children.

Tree Lighting Celebration

The annual Tree Lighting Celebration, sponsored by the Standish Recreation Committee, will be held at the Standish Municipal Center at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1. There will be music, Christmas caroling and maybe even a “special guest” or two! Refreshments will be served.
