UPDATE: One of the twin brothers from Windham charged with aggravated assault in connection with two separate assaults was released on bail earlier this week.
Jame Byron Lewis, 26, was charged last week with two counts of aggravated assault against two women.
As of Wednesday, Nov. 16, James Lewis had made his $25,000 bail and was no longer being held at the Cumberland County Jail.
His brother, Alexander Lewis, was still being held at the jail. He was charged with one count of aggravated assault last week and his bail is set at $15,000.
Police officers responded to a Windham residence at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, for a reported assault, according to department officials. A woman, in her 20s, had suffered severe head, neck, chest and back injuries in the assault and remains hospitalized, according to police.
Later that day, at 10 a.m., Windham officers responded to Brown Cove Road, where another female reported an attack. She suffered non-life threatening head and back injuries, and was taken to the hospital.
At the Brown Cove location, a suspect was identified after leaving the scene and before the police arrived. Responding officers identified the truck and pursued it. The suspect drove to a convenience store on Tandberg Trail in Windham, but fled on foot. A one-hour manhunt ensued, leading to the arrest of James Lewis, of 54 Brown Cove Road. He was charged in connection with the first and second assaults.
Alexander Lewis was later arrested at the Cumberland County Jail, where he was attempting to bail out his brother. He was charged in connection with the first assault.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and no more information will be released at this time.
