Bath police arrested a Brunswick man in connection with a stabbing inside a Bath apartment some time before midnight Tuesday, police said.

Jacob Davis, 25, was charged with Class B aggravated assault, a felony, after a 35-year-old man showed up in the emergency room at Mid Coast Hospital with a serious stab wound, and identified Davis as his attacker. The victim, from Bowdoinham, sustained a serious but not a life-threatening injury, police said.

The victim said the assault took place in an apartment at 424 Washington St. Police had been called to the same address shortly after 11 p.m., and found the apartment in disarray, with broken glass and plates on the floor, indicating that there had been an altercation.

No one at the apartment would explain to police what had happened, so officers left and gave the residents a warning to quiet down.

After police were called to the hospital and the victim identified Davis as his attacker, officers returned to the apartment to speak with him. While taking Davis into custody, another man in the apartment, 45-year-old Donald Newton, attempted to interfere with the arrest, police said.

Newton was charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing government administration, both misdemeanors.

Neither man made bail. They were both transferred to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. Davis is being held on $2,500 cash bail, and Newton on $1,000, police said. They are both expected to appear in court Dec. 20.
