A Cornish man is facing drug trafficking charges for allegedly selling crack cocaine in York County.

Daniel Smith, 27, was arrested Friday night after drug agents and York County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped his car in Cornish. Agents assigned to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s York District Task Force for the past six months have been investigating Smith for allegedly selling crack, heroin and fentanyl in the county.

Smith also was wanted for failing to appear in court on charges unrelated to the alleged drug activity, according to police.

A search of Smith’s car turned up 17 grams of crack cocaine and 2.8 grams of heroin, according to police. Agents later searched his home at 124 Maple St. and seized another 128 grams of crack, 2.5 grams of heroin, a semi-automatic handgun and $2,000 in suspected drug proceeds. Agents also seized Smith’s 2008 Cadillac SUV.

Police estimated the street value of the seized crack and heroin at $15,500.

Smith was charged with aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs (crack cocaine). Police say the charge is aggravated because of the firearm. Smith was taken to York County Jail, where bail was set at $25,000.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
