BIDDEFORD — Kendra MacDonald and Kersey Boulay each scored two goals as the top-seeded University of New England beat fourth-seeded Salve Regina 7-1 in a Commonwealth Coast field hockey tournament semifinal at Biddeford.
Hannah Buckley scored six minutes into the game off a feed from Marge Gardner to give UNE (18-3) a 1-0 lead. Salve Regina (9-10) tied it four minutes later, but goals from Olivia Madore, MacDonald and Boulay gave the Nor’easters a 4-1 lead at halftime.
Boulay, MacDonald and Brooke Lemerise completed the scoring for New England in the second half.
The Nor’easters will host third-seeded Western New England for the conference title Saturday at 1 p.m.
USM 3, BRIDGEWATER ST. 0: Lindsay Jackson scored two goals as the sixth-seeded Huskies (9-12) beat the seventh-seeded Bears (11-7) at Gorham to advance to the Little East Conference championship for the first time since 2007.
Jackson scored 11:20 into the game off a feed from Kaitlin Hilton for a 1-0 lead at the half.
USM made it 2-0 just 35 seconds into the second half on a goal by Tayla Smedberg, assisted by Kyrstyn Keating. Smedberg assisted on Jackson’s second goal of the night 18 minutes later to wrap up the scoring.
Amanda Kasbohm had eight saves for the Huskies.
ST. JOSEPH’S 3, LASELL 1: Maddy Beaulieu assisted on two first-half goals as the top-seeded Monks (12-6) beat the fourth-seeded Lasers (12-7) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament semifinal at Portland.
Elyse Caiazzo opened the scoring for the Monks 13:24 into the game, assisted from Beaulieu. Libby Pomerleau extended St. Joseph’s lead six minutes later for a 2-1 halftime lead.
Hayley Winslow completed the scoring for the Monks with a goal in the 37th minute.
St. Joseph’s will face second-seeded Simmons for the conference crown Saturday.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
LASELL 5, ST. JOSEPH’S 1: Casey Meissner scored twice as the top-seeded Lasers (17-2-1) beat the Monks (10-7-3) in a GNAC tournament semifinal at Newton, Massachusetts.
Meissner put Lasell on the board 10:41 into the game off a feed from Megan Cullen. The Monks tied it in the 30th minute on a goal from Haley DaGraca, assisted by Sarah Comtois.
Four second-half goals by Lasell put the game out of reach.
Brooke Troup had seven saves for St. Joseph’s.
With the win, the Lasers will play in their seventh straight GNAC championship game.
