BATH — Merrymeeting Bay Trust is soliciting requests for grants.
At her death, Eleanor B. Burke created The Merrymeeting Bay Trust as a charitable trust to, among other things, assist qualified, tax-exempt, charitable organizations or entities to promote the understanding, awareness and study of the natural environment surrounding Merrymeeting Bay, and to preserve undeveloped land in the vicinity of or on Merrymeeting Bay.
In the last 12 years the trustees have awarded grants totaling over $2 million — in amounts ranging from $1,000 to more than $ 100,000 — for proposals from organizations such as land trusts, museums, educational organizations and other non-profits.
Trustees do not expect to award any grants for any organization’s conventional operating expenses or its endowment development.
Application forms are available by writing the trust at P.O. Box 662, Bath, Maine 04530- 0662 or contacting Sandra W. Weiss, Co-Trustee, at 443-2654 or snipefarm@gmail.com.
All applications must be received no later than Dec. 1. Awards will be made by the end of the year. The next grant cycle will be June 1, 2017.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
