Lydia Clark of Westbrook, widow of Staff Sgt. Craig Cherry, formerly of Windham, receives a Gold Star banner Oct. 15 from American Legion Cdr. Peter Johnson. Cherry was killed in Afghanistan in 2004. At the ceremony at the American Legion Memorial Post 155 in Naples, presentations were made to families of military service membrs were in killed in action in Afghanistan and Iraq after 2001. The ceremony was sponsored jointly by the American Legion Field-Allen Post 148 of Windham and the Naples post. The Gold Star Banner replaces the Blue Star Banner and is given when a serviceman loses his life during conflict.
