Candidate Night
Bill Diamond will host a Candidate Night on Speakout on Windham’s local channel 7 at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27. You are encouraged to call in your questions during the show at 892-0546 or come to the Windham Town office, Council Chambers, and be part of the audience.
Halloween Adventure
On Saturday, Oct. 29, from 6-9 p.m., a Halloween Adventure will take place at the Middle School gym and cafeteria. This event is open to families with children in grades 8 and under; children, who may wear costumes, must be accompanied by an adult. Costume judging will take place all evening, with the youngest first. Entertainment by Flamin’ Raymin and Sizzlin Suzzin. VIP parking will be provided at no charge for anyone willing to open their vehicle’s trunks for Trunk or Treating. The event, hosted by Windham Parks & Recreation Dept. and Advisory Committee and Friends of Windham Public Library, is free, but pre-registration is required before Monday, Oct. 21. Support the Food Pantry and bring a canned good to donate. Windham Primary School will hold its Fall Festival from 1-4 p.m. the same day. Call 892-1905 to register or with any questions.
Free trip for veterans
American Legion, Field Allen Post 148 is sponsoring a trip for local veterans to the South Portland Maine Military Museum on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016. Bus transportation will be provided and will depart the Windham Veterans Center (behind Hannaford) in North Windham at 12:30 p.m. A lunch will be provided after the visit, compliments of the Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration Committee. Roast pork supper
On Saturday, Oct. 22, from 5-6 p.m., Windham Knights of Columbus will hold a roast pork supper at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Windham. Supper includes roast pork, homemade mashed potatoes, fresh vegetables, salad, rolls, coffee/tea/punch and a homemade dessert buffet. The cost for adults is $9 and for children 12 and under, $5. Family maximum is $25. Proceeds from the dinner will support Lori’s Kids Halloween Party held at The Roost in Buxton for severely disabled children and adults. Meals are available to go. Tickets will be available at the door until sold out.
Country-western concert
A country-western concert featuring Lou and Maureen Mathieu will be held Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Windham Veterans Center. A bean supper will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. with the concert at 7 p.m. Admission will be $8 for the supper and $10 for the concert or $15 for both. Proceeds will benefit the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame and Windham Veterans Center. For more information, call Dick at 310-0390.
Free membership
October is American Legion membership month and Field Allen Post 148 of Windham is offering free membership to qualified applicants during October. Interested veterans may contact Dave Tanguay, 892-1306 or dtanguay46@aol.com, or drop by the Windham Veterans Center on Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon and see a recruiter.
Join the Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 148 will hold its first Autumn Open House at the Windham Veterans Center on Sunday, Oct. 23, from 2-4 p.m. Anyone interested in finding out more about the Auxiliary, membership or activities is welcome to attend. You can check out the group on Facebook.
New digital service @ Library
The library is adding another digital download service to its collection: Comics Plus. With this new service, library patrons have unlimited access to thousands of digitized graphic novels and comics using any Web-connected device. The downloads are available for free to all Windham Public Library card holders with an active, 14-digit account in good standing. Good Shepherd
On Tuesday, Nov. 1, the Good Shepherd Food Mobile will be at the Food Pantry from 10-11:30 a.m. Bring your own bags or boxes. The Food Pantry is on Route 202, next to the Public Safety Building and across from Friends Meetinghouse.
Thanksgiving baskets
The Windham Food Pantry will be taking requests for Thanksgiving baskets until Nov. 3. That’s the last day to sign up at the pantry. Signups cannot be done by phone and proof of residency is required. The food pantry is the building next door to the Public Safety building and across the street from the Friends Meeting House.
Orange sale
The North Windham Union Church Thrift Shop is having a half-price sale on anything orange throughout the month of October. Come on by on Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m., Thursdays 1-3 p.m., or Saturdays from 10 a.m. until noon. You might find a great Halloween costume! The Thrift Shop sells clothing, children’s items, household goods, books, craft items and more and is located at the church, near the corner of Route 302 and 115.

Veterans Coffee Break
Every Wednesday, a Veterans Coffee Break is held from 9-11 a.m. at Windham Veterans Center. All veterans are welcome to stop by and take a break from the day’s routine, visit with old or new friends and find out what’s new.
Medicare Open Enrollment
One-on-one counseling with volunteer Medicare advocates is available from 9 a.m. to noon on each Tuesday from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham, from 10 a.m. to noon. This is the Medicare Open Enrollment Period, and is your chance to find out about your lowest cost options for 2017 and perhaps change your Medicare Drug Plan or Medicare Advantage Plan.
