Seniors potluck
Seniors will gather for lunch and entertainment and to share an afternoon of community at noon Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Standish Municipal Center, Sebago Lake Room. The cost is $5. Registration is required, but bringing along a food item to share is optional. Casseroles, desserts and finger sandwiches are recommended. Entertainment, along with plates, utensils, coffee, tea, and water will be provided.

Catherine’s Cupboard Food Pantry
Sponsored by Saint Joseph’s College, in partnership with the Town of Standish and Pearson’s Cafe, Catherine’s Cupboard Food Pantry distributes food to those in need every Wednesday from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Standish Municipal Center on Route 35.

Want to help? Donations of canned or nonperishable goods are accepted at the cupboard on Wednesday nights, or at Hannaford in Standish, Standish Town Hall or Campus Ministry at the college.

Need food? Come by Wednesdays between 5-6:30 p.m. to fill out the paperwork and collect food bags.

Fire/EMS subscriptions
Standish Fire-EMS subscribers are not billed for emergency medical services not covered by insurance. The subscription agreement covers a full year from Jan. 1  until Dec. 31. Subscription forms will be included when tax bills are mailed out in November.

Bridge Club

Play American Mah Jongg
If you know how to play American Mah Jongg and are familiar with the officil rules, join the games from 9-11 a.m. Fridays at the Town Hall Sebago Lake Room. For more information, contact Mary Lou Tracy, 642-2503.

Scrooge trolley trip for seniors
Seniors can take an overnight trip Dec. 6-7 to historic Salem, Massachusetts, for a trolley ride billed as “A Christmas Carol with a twist.’ Ride along with Scrooge as the classic tale is brought to life in a completely unexpected way. The trolley ride will follow dinner, included, at the historic Hawthorne Hotel, which is also where the group will spend the night. The next day after breakfast, the group will visit the the Peabody Essex Museum’s “Shoes: Pleasure and Pain” exhibit, then return home. Breakfast and lunch are on your own. Indicate roommate preference at the time of registration. Transportation is via 14-passenger buses (not Standish vans). Comfort stops will be provided; there are no facilities on board. This Standish Recreation trip is co-sponsored with area recreation departments. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Nov. 2. The cost is $225 per person/double or $270 for a single room. The departure time is 12:15 p.m. on Dec. 6 from Gorham Municipal Center.

At the Steep Falls Library

Book group meets the third Monday of the month at 11 a.m. The November book is “The Good Earth” by Pearl S. Buck.

Story Hour begins Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 10-11 a.m.

A special trolley trip for seniors in December in Salem, Massachusetts, is being offered through the Standish Recreation Department.
