WESTFIELD, Mass. — Brunswick’s Jasmine Boyle led the way as the University of Southern Maine women’s cross country team finished eighth among the 40 teams competing last Saturday at the annual James Early Invitational hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park.
Boyle placed fifth overall after covering the 5,000-meter Stanley Park course in a time of 22:17.93.
The Huskies’ top five runners combined for a score of 304 points to earn the top 10 finish.
The University of New England finished first in the team scoring with 65 points, followed by Tufts University with 84. Keene State College was third with 208 points.
The Little East Conference announced Monday afternoon that Boyle has been selected as the women’s cross country Runner of the Week for the period ending Oct. 9.
The weekly honor for Boyle is the first of her three-year career at USM. Boyle is the first USM female runner this season to receive an LEC weekly honor.
Southern Maine will be back on the trails on Saturday (11 a.m.), competing at the Maine State Championship being held at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester.
