Kids on tour love the model of the historic Wells garrison at the Meetinghouse at the Historical Society of Wells and Ogunquit.
WELLS — Tours at the Meetinghouse at the Historical Society of Wells and Ogunquit, 938 Post Road, take place Thursdays through Oct. 27, a day on which there will be a special “Spooky Stories Tour” with lots of fun tales from local history featuring the Sea Serpent of Wells, the unusual tomb of Thomas Heard, the ghost ship Isidore and the witch trial of the Meetinghouse’s 11th pastor, Rev. George Burroughs. All ages are invited to drop in, anytime from noon to 3 p.m. on Thursdays, for a guided tour of the Meetinghouse and exhibits. During the summer, over 50 visitors came in for a tour. Historical Society member Bill Farr donates his time and energy to share his love of history with at the 1862 Meetinghouse that features a collection of artifacts from local families, fishermen, farms and businesses on exhibit to tell the story of Wells and Ogunquit. Guided tours take 30 to 40 minutes, and are free of charge. Donations are accepted. For more information, email info@wohistory.org or call 646-4775.
