Family Crisis Services
The Domestic Violence Resource Center serving Cumberland County is offering two-hour drop-in sessions at the Standish Town Office on the third and fourth Monday of each month from 9-11 a.m. If you or someone you know are experiencing domestic violence, and you are in need of support, guidance and information, a Family Crisis Services advocate will be there to assist you during the specified times. The drop-in sessions are on a first-come, first-serve basis unless you have previously set appointment. If you arrive and the advocate is unavailable, you may contact the FCS hotline at 874-1973 for support or the Lakes Region Outreach Site at 647-8501 to schedule an appointment.
Kiwanis honors Newbegin
Kiwanis Club of Standish president Dan Kasprzyk presented club secretary Linda Newbegin with the 2016 Kiwanian of the Year award during the recent officer installation in Standish.
In presenting the award, Kasprzyk cited Newbegin’s unwaivering commitment to the club. “Linda discovered several errors in our membership reporting, which has cost our club in excess of $1,600 over the past few years. She went above the call of duty in her role as club secretary, and attended almost all of the club fundraisers and events,” he said.
Kasprzyk also recognized Newbegin for her daily application of the six permanent Kiwanis Objects – moral and ethical standards – adopted by Kiwanis International in 1924.
Kiwanis Club of Standish, which has been serving the local community since 1929, meets most Wednesdays at 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.KiwanisBeach.org, or call 642-4036.
