YORK — Morgan Smith scored four goals, three in the first five minutes of the second half, as York pulled away for a 5-0 victory against Freeport in a Western Maine Conference schoolgirl soccer game Thursday night.
Morgan Chapman also scored, Halee Bando and Peyton Nickerson each had a pair of assists, and Payton Humphrey added an assist for the Wildcats (6-2-3).
Jordan Russell stopped eight shots for Freeport (6-4-1). Anna Baker had one save for York.
GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 3, VINALHAVEN/NORTH HAVEN 3: Vinalhaven/North Haven (4-4-1) scored a pair of unanswered goals to come back and salvage a draw with the Lions (1-8-2) at South Portland.
Hannah Newton scored unassisted to open the scoring for Vinalhaven/North Haven before Maddy Gant and Grace Mears answered with unassisted goals to give Greater Portland Christian a 2-1 halftime lead.
Gant extend the lead to 3-1 early in the second half before Newton and Dreyenn Osgood countered with unassisted goals.
ERSKINE ACADEMY 0, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Caitlin Labbe made 15 saves for Erskine Academy (7-2-2) and Christine Hilton stopped 13 shots for Lincoln Academy (4-3-3) at Newcastle.
SACOPEE VALLEY 2, RICHMOND 1: Annette Humphrey scored with two minutes remaining in overtime to lift the Hawks (9-0-1) over the Bobcats (8-1) at Richmond.
Natasha Silva had the other goal for Sacopee. Madison Day made four saves.
Meranda Martin scored on a penalty kick for Richmond. Sydney Tilton made 14 saves.
BRUNSWICK 4, EDWARD LITTLE 0: Maeve Arthur and Kira Wolpow each scored two goals as the Dragons (10-0) beat the Eddies (7-3-1) at Brunswick.
Arthur added an assist, and Aidan Sachs, Sara Scrapchansky and Dina Murphy also had assists.
Beth Labbe stopped 13 shots for Brunswick; Taylor Depot made 12 saves for Edward Little.
FIELD HOCKEY
FRYEBURG ACADEMY 2, FREEPORT 0: Bridget Tweedie scored from Janelle Wiesemann 13 minutes into the game and the Raiders (6-7-1) went on to beat the Falcons (5-8) at Fryeburg.
The Raiders led 1-0 at halftime and extended the lead with 2:23 remaining when Taylor Kruger scored from Alexis Charles.
Katelyn Rouleau made 14 saves for Freeport.
ST. DOMINIC 3, MAINE GIRLS’ ACADEMY/WAYNFLETE 0: The Saints (9-2-1) received goals from three players and shut out the Lions (0-12) at Portland.
Hannah Trottier-Braun and Paige Cote had unassisted goals, and Callie Samson scored from Kylie Leavitt.
SACOPEE VALLEY 5, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 0: Liz Ouellette and Abby Mosson each scored twice to lead the Hawks (6-6-1) over the Seagulls (3-9-1) at South Hiram.
Lexi Lajoie also scored.
Alexis Gamage recorded five saves for the Seagulls. McKenzie Cormier stopped three shots for Sacopee.
TRAIP ACADEMY 7, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Sierra O’Brien scored four goals as the Rangers (10-1-1) rolled past the Patriots (0-11-1) at Kittery.
Madison Andrews added a pair of goals and Amelia Sullivan also scored for Traip.
Cara Waltz scored for Gray-New Gloucester.
Nicole Roberts stopped three shots for the Rangers.
YORK 2, LAKE REGION 0: Jessa Smith scored with 7:04 left in the first half and the Wildcats (14-0) went on to beat the Lakers (0-12-1) at Naples.
York led 1-0 at halftime and extended its lead with 20 minutes left on a goal by Lily Posternak from Brigitte Spencer.
MT. VIEW 7, MARANACOOK 0: Six players scored as the Mustangs (7-6) defeated the Black Bears (0-13) at Readfield.
Reanna Boulay led the Mustangs with two goals. Michelle Bilodeau, Maddy Knowlton, Jessie Blanchette and Ashlee Hamel also scored.
WINSLOW 3, MORSE 2: Weslee Littlefield scored as time expired in regulation to force overtime and Cassidy Rickard added the winner with 25 seconds left to lead Winslow (6-6-1) over Morse (3-8-1) at Bath.
Anna Petrovic also scored for the Black Raiders.
FALMOUTH 6, CAPE ELIZABETH 0: Kate Kelley scored three first-half goals as the Yachtsmen (12-2) cruised past the Capers (4-9) at Falmouth.
Devon Sarazin, Sydney Bell and Mary Budri added second-half goals, and Madeline Rouhana had an assist.
Kinnon McGrath made six saves for Cape Elizabeth.
VOLLEYBALL
WELLS 3, YORK 1: Kait Schott had 27 assists, three digs and two aces as the Warriors (7-5) beat the Wildcats (3-8) at Wells.
Michelle Desjardins had five kills and two assists, and Alyssa Loukola added two aces, seven kills and three blocks for Wells, which won, 12-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-14.
WINDHAM 3, SOUTH PORTLAND 0: The Eagles (4-7) defeated the Red Riots (5-6) in straight sets, 25-13, 25-15, 25-21, at Windham.
Cassie Fleck led the Eagles with eight kills, 10 digs and three aces. Megan Fleck added 22 assists.
Molly Mawhinney recorded eight kills for South Portland.
CHEVERUS 3, KENNEBUNK 1: Alexis Parsons had 10 kills and five service aces to lead the Stags (7-4) past the Rams (5-6) at Portland.
Liz Jerome had 10 kills, and Mary Jerome added seven kills and three blocks for Cheverus.
Kennebunk took the first game, 25-14, but the Stags recovered to take the next three, 25-14, 25-17, 25-18.
PORTLAND 3, LAKE REGION 0: Jessica Brown had a stretch of 20 consecutive serves as the Bulldogs (3-8) swept past the Lakers (2-9) at Naples.
Portland took the match in straight games, 25-17, 25-23, 25-14. Annie Twombly had 16 digs, and Veronica Irish-Bates added four blocks and three kills.
DEERING 3, BRUNSWICK 1: Maddy Broda had 25 assists and 10 service aces for the Rams (8-3) against the Dragons (0-11) at Portland.
Kaylee Helmick and Avery Donovan combined for 17 aces, and Cindy Hoang added six blocks for Deering, which took the first two sets, 25-6, 25-20, dropped the third 25-19, then rallied to close out the fourth game, 25-12.
