I am a three term At-Large Gardiner City Councilor and member of the Audit, Parks and Recreation and Economic Development Committe

Why are you running for office?

I am running for office to make Maine a better place, and to serve the people of this great state. I will support education reform, which includes adding a class to the High School Curriculum where they learn basic life skills, such as how to do taxes, or balance a budget. I will also rebuild our infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, and represent the people of Gardiner and Farmingdale to the best of my ability.

• Income Tax: Gov. LePage would like to lower Maine’s income tax rate and eventually eliminate it, by increasing the state’s sales tax and expanding it across a broader range of goods and services. Do you support this proposal?
  • Yes

    Our current income tax rate is way too high, and at the very least needs significant reduction. I believe this will benefit Maine in the long run, and bring in more residents and businesses.

• Background Checks: Do you support background checks for privately sold firearms in Maine?
  • No

    I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, and believe that the current background checks are ineffective at deterring crime.

• Minimum Wage: In light of the ballot question facing voters this fall, do you support raising the state’s minimum wage from $7.50 to $12 an hour by 2020?
  • No

    I believe the real problem we are facing is inflation, and raising the minimum wage wouldn’t permanently solve the issue, while also hurting small businesses.

• Marijuana: Do you support legalization of marijuana for recreational use?
  • No

    While I appreciate the tax revenue legalized marijuana would bring in, I believe more studies are required to determine the risks/benefits on health.

• Addiction/Overdoses: Do you believe the state is doing enough in response to the rise in heroin/opiate addiction and overdoses? If not, what else should be done?
  • No, I believe more support systems are needed throughout the state, as well as rehab centers. I also believe the police should be given the proper resources to deal with the growing issue, such as more training, education and equipment.
