Why are you running for office?
I am running to fight for a state government that is fair and offers hope. Certainly I want a government that spends our money wisely and efficiently and preserves our rights while it protects us and our children from harm. But I also want a government that makes it possible for all our children to have decent food, decent housing, and decent schools that prepare them for good jobs; for seniors to stay in their homes; for students to graduate college without huge debts; and for all of us to have access to quality healthcare. I want a government that does not fall prey to businesses that make false promises. I want a criminal justice system that prosecutes and punishes cheaters: who avoid paying taxes; who accept or offer bribes; who use wealth and influence to evade the law; who exploit unsuspecting consumers; and, yes, who defraud our welfare system. I want transparent government to make sure our politicians are working for us, not for donors and lobbyists. I want a government that welcomes new technology—like solar power and broadband—rather than fails to support it; and that responds to climate change rather than denies it. I want to fight every day to prove that government can be a force for good, not a threat to freedom. Most of all I want to make this district I love, with its tremendous assets in people, landscape, and seascape, an even better place to live than it already is.

Income Tax: Gov. LePage would like to lower Maine’s income tax rate and eventually eliminate it, by increasing the state’s sales tax and expanding it across a broader range of goods and services. Do you support this proposal?
-
Background Checks: Do you support background checks for privately sold firearms in Maine?
-
Minimum Wage: In light of the ballot question facing voters this fall, do you support raising the state’s minimum wage from $7.50 to $12 an hour by 2020?
-
Marijuana: Do you support legalization of marijuana for recreational use?
-
Addiction/Overdoses: Do you believe the state is doing enough in response to the rise in heroin/opiate addiction and overdoses? If not, what else should be done?
