From the Journal Tribune: “Thornton Academy would like to put a laptop in the hands of each student and thanks to a $50,000 grant, the school is 270 computers closer to its goal. The school received a grant from the Sam L. Cohen Foundation, which supports organizations that seek to help others realize their potential for a healthy, productive future.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Justice Harold J. Rubin gave Roy Jacobs, 60, of Waterboro, a suspended state prison sentence yesterday in the York County Superior Court after Jacobs pleaded guilty to firing shots that struck and wounded one of the several youths fleeing from a nearby church where they had rung the church bell last June. Jacobs was charged with assault and battery on Daniel B. Hanson, 16, of Waterboro.”

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Boats from the lighthouse tender Hibiscus today were dragging for bodies of Chester Brinkworth, assistant keeper of Crabtree Ledge light, near the mouth of Sullivan harbor, at the head of Frenchman’s Bay, and his brother Leon, who were drowned. Chester’s body was recovered shortly before noon.”
