The Fair
Can’t believe this Sunday the Fryeburg Fair starts! I just heard Route 302 headed to Fryeburg is still under construction … that will be slow going. it was pretty rough last time I drove it just a couple of weeks ago. My advice is to take the back way. But don’t expect too much in the way of foliage. Reports are that the season will be less than stellar due to the drought our area is experiencing.
Laker pride
Be on the lookout for tons of excited kids in blue and gold this week. Laker Pride, a celebration of our schools, is happening! There is lots planned for this weekend including a parade, bonfire, pep rally, fun run, cross country meet, soccer games, Friday night football and, of course, the Homecoming Dance. The Lake Region High School Band will be on hand adding to the fun. Come support our schools. You can attend the football game, or run or walk in the Fun Run at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. The course is just two miles at Lake Region High School. Entry fee is $20 pre-race day for adults, and $10 per student. If you wait to register the day of the race it’s $25. Call 650-5156 or 693-4043 to register.
Detour, slow down
Speaking of the back way, now that the small bridge on Route 114 is being replaced, the detoured traffic is passing right up our road, Kimball Corner, turning at Lake House Road in Naples. The traffic on that road has steadily increased since I have lived here, 20 years and counting. What I have noticed most about this road is the speed at which people travel it. Please do be careful, and slow down then you see pedestrians out walking their dogs. It’s scary when someone breezes by you at 80 mph without a second thought. The work is scheduled to last about a month.
Naples still open
Many of the restaurants in Naples fortunately stay open for some of the fall, such as Freedom Café, Merced’s, Naples Pizza and Captain Jack’s to name a few. The pizza place and Captain Jack’s are open until Columbus Day, so enjoy while you can. Of course, we are lucky to have our year-round places like the Galley, Bray’s Brew Pub, Black Bear Café and Nancy’s Sports Pub! It’s awesome to have so many choices in our small town. Each one of them is great for their own reasons. Variety is the spice of life, so check them all out.

Dr. Paul Greenstone and the Lake Region High School Band will add to the Homecoming festivities and events this weekend.
