NEED A RIDE? The People Plus Volunteer Transportation Network provides free rides to over 200 registered riders in the Greater Brunswick area, including Topsham, Brunswick, Harpswell and is now newly expanded to Bath. Rides are provided for medical appointments and grocery shopping as well as personal needs such as trips to the bank, post office, hair salon or food pantry. Over 25 volunteer drivers provided 900 rides last year logging 6,500 miles. Rider Dorothy Boddaert (seated) maintains social connections and improves her nutritional options with regular rides to the People Plus Center where she participates in a weekly Textile arts/crafters group, monthly lunch preparation and enjoys regular meals. She says of her driver, Gladys Szabo and her trips to People Plus, “I don’t know what I would do without her and my rides to People Plus.” Applications to be a rider or a volunteer driver can be obtained at the People Plus Center at 35 Union St. or at peopleplusmaine.org. This program is generously funded by the United Way of Mid Coast Maine.
