School’s back
The beauty of school being in session: Kids’ minds are being stimulated, bodies activated with school sports, camaraderie kindled by the creation of new friendships and revisiting old ones. The downside? Schedules! School buses everywhere! That hectic pace of have to be here by what time, and what time is this event over and what forms do you need filled out? Ah, I always say it. Life is composed of stages. This too shall pass, but I do hear all of those parents out there who complain it goes to fast. These moments when they need you and a hug are priceless. Hopefully, that part of it will always remain.
Crockett River bridge closure
Route 114/11 will close Monday, Sept. 18, at 6 a.m. for replacement of the Crockett River Bridge, near Camp Mataponi. No vehicles will be allowed to pass the intersection of Gore Road and Route 114 during the construction period, which may last as long as 26 days. Detours will be posted by the Maine Department of Transportation on major roads.
Block party a hit
Thank you to the United Methodist Church of Naples for putting on such a fine block party. My children and I stopped by for a quick bite and some good conversation. I saw old friends and made new ones. The food was bountiful and tasty. It sure was a hot day, as we have grown accustomed to this summer, but the lemonade and water was iced just right. They had a bouncy house, music and of course, fellowship. It was a great time. Just what you would want to see in our small town of Naples: a feel good event, put on with kindness and goodwill, for our community.
Business stewardship rewarded
Congratulations to Robert Fogg and the Q-Team Tree Service of Naples for being awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Naples, Casco & Raymond Post 155 American Legion at its Sept. 6 meeting.
Taste of summer in fall
The baked bean supper is a staple of the busy summer months here in Maine, but did you know they are held right here in Naples throughout the fall? The Edes Falls Sewing Circle’s latest Calendar of Events list Suppers up until November. The next one is Saturday, Sept. 24, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. They are always held at the Edes Falls Community Center, and they’re also always tasty, a great bargain and a nice way to mingle with your neighbors.
Try something new
The Lake Region Adult Education program has so many different classes to try. Their choices range from improving your business skills with a Google Apps for Home, Work or Business Course, to making your own holiday cards with a printmaking class., to moving your body with Zumba in Sebago. Find your passion or indulge in it! Call 627-4291 or check out www.lakeregion-fryeburg.maineadulted.org or register for these and many more classes.
Speaking of moving your body, Naples is offering interesting ways to do that these days. Check out Yoga at the Naples Public Library on Tuesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. with Deb Goldstein. Also at the library, there is a free Tai Ji Quan 18 class with John Cuadrado on Tuesdays at 9 a.m. Or, try a Yamuna Body Rolling Workshop (similar to foam rolling but with balls, which are much easier to work with and get into your nooks and crannies, releasing muscle tension, toxins and more), at Fountain of You Fitness on Route 302 from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23.

Longtime Naples resident Jim Miller mans the grill at the United Methodist Block Party at the Village Green.
