BRUNSWICK

The Brunswick High School varsity field hockey team fought hard in a 4-0 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference defeat to Messalonskee on Monday in the Dragons’ home opener.

Libby Felkay stood tall in net, notching five saves in the first half and nine more in the second for the Dragons.

After no shots on cage in the first frame, the Dragons trailed, 2-0. Kaitlyn Smith and Megan Quirion got the scoring started for Messalonskee, before Lydia Dexter and Haley Lowell scored in the second half.

Shea Sullivan, Anna Rider, Rosie White, Maddie Wayne and Ketty Stinson played well for Brunswick (2-3), which travels to Skowhegan on Thursday at 4 p.m.

LISBON 2

MTN. VALLEY 1

Chase Collier scored early in overtime to lift the visiting Greyhounds to a Mountain Valley Conference win at Rumford.

After a scoreless half, the Greyhounds and Falcons each tallied a goal in the second half. Sydney Plourde scored for Lisbon off an assist from Mallory Fairbanks. Chelsea Allison had Mountain Valley’s goal, which was set up by Marissa Crosby.

Falcons goalie Alyssa Akers made nine saves in the game.

Lisbon returns to action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at home against Dirigo.

KENNEBUNK 7

FREEPORT 2

Linzie Gregoire scored two first-half goals as the visiting Rams pulled away for a Western Maine Conference win over host Freeport.

Bailey Coffin and Natalie Anderson scored in the first half for the 2-1-1 Falcons, who host Lake Region on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

But, Kennebunk (3-2) took advantage of turnovers, outscoring Freeport 3-0 after halftime.

“The score is not reflective of the game,” said Freeport coach Marcia Wood. “They scored and we countered, and we countered again. We made them make mistakes, but we made too many mistakes.”

Freeport goaltender Megan Seymour had 14 saves.
