A West Gardiner teenager was arrested on multiple charges Tuesday evening after a car he was driving crashed on Middle Road in Sidney, rolling over several times and leading to minor injuries for all five people in the vehicle.
The vehicle, a Ford Focus sedan, had allegedly been stolen from an Augusta home, and officers who responded to the scene found bottles of Twisted Tea and other alcoholic beverages in the car, said Chief Deputy William Johnson of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
After 18-year-old Justyn E. Wilson allegedly ran from the scene, Johnson said, deputies from the sheriff’s office found him and arrested him on charges of failing to render assistance to those who are injured, driving without a license, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving to endanger, being a minor transporting liquor and theft by unauthorized use of property.
Wilson was treated at MaineGeneral Medical Center for minor injuries including bruising, then taken to Kennebec County jail, Johnson said. His bail was set at $1,000 cash.
Three of his passengers, who were all teenagers, were taken to the hospital for treatment immediately after the accident, Sgt. Mike Dutil said Tuesday night.
The fourth passenger fled the scene with Wilson, heading in the direction of Augusta, Johnson said.
A Maine State Police K-9 unit came to the crash scene to search for Wilson and the other person but was not successful, Johnson said.
Deputies found them later, said Johnson, who did not know how far they had gone on foot.
Johnson did not expect the sheriff’s office to charge anyone else in connection with the crash.
