WATERVILLE — Freshman Adela Kalilwa broke open a scoreless draw in the 39th minute to record her first intercollegiate goal, and the University of Southern Maine Huskies flooded the nets with four second-half goals to earn a 5-0 season-opening win over the Thomas College Terriers Thursday evening at Smith Field.
USM (1-0) dominated the statistics, outshooting Thomas 20-2 (10 on goal), including 11-0 in the first half. The Huskies also had a decisive 10-0 edge in corner kicks.
USM sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Canastra made one save to earn her first career shutout, while Thomas goalkeeper senior Paige Leary made five saves in the loss.
