Bath police are seeking the public’s help in locating a man wanted for aggravated assault after allegedly hitting another man in the face several times with a hammer last week.

Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Jason Mackenzie, 38, with a last known address of 100 Union St., in Bath.

On Aug. 24 at 1:20 a.m., Bath police officers responded to 98 Union St. for a report of a man that had been assaulted with a hammer.

Upon arriving, officers located the victim, a 37 year-old man from Bowdoin who had suffered non-life threatening injuries to his facial area. EMT’s were called to the scene to treat the victim for his injuries.

Officers interviewed the victim as well as witnesses and learned that Mackenzie had fled the scene prior to their arrival. They learned that Mackenzie and the victim were arguing inside. The two men went outside, at which point, Mackenzie allegedly picked up a hammer and struck the victim several times in the facial area. A hammer was located by investigators outside 98 Union St. where the assault was said to have taken place.

The victim sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries to his facial area. He was taken by his friends to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for further treatment and released later that day.

There is an active arrest warrant on Mackenzie charging him with aggravated assault, a Class B crime.

“If you know Mackenzie’s location, please contact your local law enforcement agency,” states a press release issued Tuesday by Bath Police Department.

Investigators have received information that he might be in the Dresden or Augusta areas.
