In the Friday, Aug. 19, edition of the Lakes Region Weekly, Tess Wrobleski’s article “Reborn summer festival cheers Gray” states “Ruth Foster, festival organizer.” Ruth Foster was a Jaycee Wife supporting the Old Home Day Festival and all of its activities with other Jaycee Wives, not the organizer. Robert Sawyer, president of the Jaycees at that time, initiated and organized the Old Home Day. Through the efforts of numerous Jaycee members and Jaycee Wives, it was a success for several years.

Interesting to note that the float with the replica of the town’s first woolen mill had a water wheel which allowed water to run through the wheel when a Jaycee member turned a crank from the inside of the building, making it a magnificent display. This Jaycee Organization was instrumental in providing other numerous benefits for the Town of Gray, including starting a local Gray newspaper, assisting in the local schools and library and often giving support to needy town residents. It is truly a blessing that this year’s new “End of the summer Fest” may bring back some of the excitement and pleasure that was evident in the 60s with Gray Old Home Day.
