A Standish man died from injuries sustained in a car crash in Standish Saturday night, according to a press release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Police said at approximately 9 p.m. Saturday, Arthur Ames, 84, pulled into the path of another vehicle while turning off of Manchester Road onto Ossipee Trail West. Ames’ vehicle, a 2013 Nissan Sentra, was struck in the front driver’s side door.

Ames and his wife, Evangeline Ames, 85, were taken to Maine Medical Center for life-threatening injuries. Police said Arthur Ames died from his injuries at the hospital. Evangeline Ames is in fair condition as of 2:45 p.m. Monday. 

The driver of the second vehicle was released at the scene.

Standish Emergency personnel were assisted by rescue personnel from Gorham and Limington Fire/Rescue. The crash scene was reconstructed by deputies from the sheriff’s office. Authorities say it does not appear speed or alcohol were factors in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
