The 67-year-old man who was found in a pool of blood next to his vehicle late at night in the Falmouth Wal-Mart parking lot has died.
Roger Nelsen, whose most recent permanent address was in Portland but who had been living out of his truck, died Wednesday at Maine Medical Center in Portland, state police spokesman Stephen McCausland said.
The cause of Nelsen’s death is being investigated by the Falmouth Police Department and the Maine State Police.
An autopsy was planned for Thursday, McCausland said.
Police said at the time that they were unsure whether Nelsen was the victim of a crime or had injured himself. Falmouth Police Chief Edward Tolan would only say that there was no danger to the public.
“This is kind of a critical point in the investigation right now, we’re not giving out any information,” Tolan said.
Nelsen was found about 3:30 a.m. Monday by a Falmouth patrol officer. Nelsen appeared to have been stabbed.
