Five local innovative technology companies are among the recipients of Maine Technology Institute Seed Grants to support new product and process development in a variety of fields.

MedRhythms of Cape Elizabeth received $18,600; Chemonex and Optimum Imaging Diagnostics, both of Scarborough, $24,950 and $25,000, respectively; Delta Dewatering and InterSpec, both of South Portland, $25,000 and $23,000, respectively.

In all, 32 entrepreneurial applicants for the grants received $752,599. This round of grants also leveraged more than $1.7 million in matching contributions to benefit the award recipients.

“The Seed Grants that were awarded this round span all seven of our state’s targeted technology sectors and exemplify MTI’s investment philosophy of supporting inventors in garages all the way up to publicly traded companies,” MTI president Brian Whitney said in news release. “We need to continue to invest in innovation to foster the development of new products and emerging businesses and to support and grow existing Maine companies and jobs.”

Seed Grants are offered three times a year.
