A statement typed on several pieces of paper found at the Westbrook Pointe apartment complex saying, “All Muslims are terrorists should be killed,” is being investigated Wednesday by the Westbrook Police Department.

According to a press release from Westbrook Police Chief Janine Roberts, a report of the threats was made by an Iraqi resident at the public safety building Wednesday morning.

The resident of the apartments, at 26 Prospect St., brought in one of the pieces of paper. The pieces of paper are described as hand-cut strips, roughly 1.5 to 2 inches in width, and 8.5 inches long.

Roberts said officers responded to the apartment complex to investigate, where officers found another paper on the ground, and said two more similar pieces of paper were discovered by other Iraqi residents of the complex.

However, Roberts said, the individuals who found the additional threats have not come forward to report them.

“There are no known suspects at this time. It is unknown if these threats are connected to the recent media coverage of Adnan Fazeli,” the release states, referring to news reports this week about a Maine refugee’s path to fighting for the Islamic State.

“The Westbrook Police Department takes these threats seriously. We are working with the property management of Westbrook Pointe, along with the Iraqi community in attempts to identify the suspect(s) and return a sense of safety to our Iraqi community members,” Roberts said in the release.

The department is requesting that anyone with information related to this “hate-bias crime” contact the police at 854-2531. The anonymous tip line is 591-8117.
